ANOTHER POLISH DISCOVERY IN BIOCHEMISTRY – THERMALLY RESISTANT NATIVE COLLAGEN!
The Polish method of collagen hydration seemed a dead-end technology and the despiralization of the 3rd helix in 26⁰C was perceived as a virtually “unavoidable” flaw that significantly reduced the commercial potential of the Polish invention due to various logistical and practical considerations.
However, there were people who would not let themselves be discouraged from continuing the research. Piotr Pakuła – a young businessman, already engaged in a number of successful ventures and privately a fervent biochemistry enthusiast, interested particularly in the field of protein biochemistry, inspired Jan Czarnecki, PhD, the inventor of numerous medicines and technologies for obtaining pharmaceutical components, to become involved in a research program which already in 2010 yielded, in the course of tests conducted at the Finepharm laboratories in Jelenia Góra, fish skin collagen characterized by nearly perfect biological purity. The researchers were unable, however, to obtain a commercially viable form thereof due to their inability to solve the problem of “sectioning” by collagenase enzymes. The issue continues to be researched and may one day prove to offer significant medical potential, particularly in the field of orthopedics.
At the same time, in a parallel line of research, Dr. Czarnecki’s team sought to discover the formula of native, fish collagen that would preserve its biological activity while being considerably more resistant to temperature.
And in this they were successful!
Dr. Czarnecki adopted the bold premise that the preservation of the triple-helix conformation in a natural dermo-cosmetic product is not a sine qua non condition of peptide biological activity. After all, fish collagen peptides have been successfully used for many years in all manner of high-quality cosmetics (also under the Colaway brand) while no-one realistically expected the same to contain tertiary collagen structures. Consequently, he became the first researcher to scientifically accept the common-sense conclusion that in order for the peptides from Polish collagen gels to be absorbed, the triple-helix structures must first be broken down on the skin surface anyway. Therefore, since the problem of our collagen’s poor thermal resilience stemmed from the fact that heat caused the breakdown of inter-helix bonds in the tertiary structure, which ultimately did not really need to be preserved – why not attempt a controlled dissimilation of triple-helixes to single helixes while ensuring that the gel form of the hydrate is maintained?
By 2012, it became clear that the task was not unfeasible! Indeed, the desired results could be obtained using a physical, rather than chemical method! By tweaking simple physical qualities such as: kinetics, pressure and temperature, albeit with very high precision possible only in a very well-equipped laboratory (at the former “Jelfa” in Jelenia Góra), Dr. Czarnecki and his team were able to stimulate the first fully controlled breakdown of the well known triple helixes, present e.g. in the gel structure of Natural Collagen, into single helixes.
Thus, the first, thermally resistant Pure Natural Collagen (pure, i.e. without any additives) was created!
Native Collagen is a biologically active protein composed of short sections of single helix chains, oligopeptides (usually 8 amino acids) and single peptides, with the same INCI chemical composition: Aqua, Collagen, Caprylyl Glycol, Elastin, Lactic Acid ; it does not denature because its despiralization occurs already at the stage of hydration.
The new, thermally resistant Native Collagen is characterized by a pH level ideally suited to skin, i.e. 5.5 (compared to 3.2-3.7 pH in triple-helix gels) which is obtained through the method of ionic exchange perfected in Poland, rather than through addition or subtraction of lactic acid.
It is biologically pure containing no lipid residue, melanin (pigment), other non-collagenous proteins or protein residue (which means its smell is less reminiscent of fish).
What is particularly important is the fact that the fish collagen hydrate in the form of thermally resistant gel can be blended (emulsified) with a number of biologically active ingredients beneficial to our skin!
In June 2015, Colway International introduced its new product: Native Collagen Gold.
The existing Collagen Pure was enriched by the addition of non-ionically obtained silver and gold colloids as well as lactoferrin, azelaic acid, chitosan, and retinol. This stemmed from our underlying belief that skin should be not only moisturized but also effectively repaired and made healthier.
In 2016, we received the new, stronger Anti Age serum, a truly revolutionary product acting on the molecular level – Native Collagen DNA. It offers a spectacular combination of the power of native collagen and cutting-edge biochemical engineering!
The repair and protection of DNA is our most powerful weapon in the fight against skin degradation. Native Collagen DNA acts by not only ensuring the occurrence of healthy processes but also by intensifying their effects and even stimulating certain cells to perform desirable tasks!
